RAVENLOFT HALL OF FAME
A.K.A.
"Them's that dies be the lucky ones!"
Despite what it may look like from the adventures and some of the things I've said, I do have some PC's that made it a long time.  Some retired, some died, one or two actually escaped, but all went through the antechamber of Hell that is Ravenloft.  Here I give tribute and acknowledge the fact that they did survive a bit longer than your average person.
VIRGIL
The stats are long gone, but this hero's legend remains in Ravenloft.  Virgil took part in the Cauldron of Blood campaign, and then the Soul of Fire campaign.  Starting out as a 28 year old man, a psionist to boot, Virgil wore a thick leather long coat, dressing much like the old West cowboys.  Virgil lost an arm to bad luck while in Masque of the Red Death.  During a robbery of the San Francisco Museam in 1903, a dwarf was shot in the backpack, where the PC had cheated and put 99 sticks of dynamite.  The collapse of the building crushed his arm, and it had to be removed.  Virgil, Damascus, and the gnome "Shady" rode the Death Train back into Ravenloft, nearly dying in the process, and kept their firearms and Masque gear.  For Virgil, that meant his tin star, his firearms, and his outfit. Damascus did not really count, since I was running him as an NPC during the Death Train since the Player had CQ that night.
Virgil stuck with the party until the death of Javelle, when he took her wedding ring as a prize.  One night, a PC asked him why it looked like he had breasts underneath his linens, and Virgil replied: "Because I do." and shot him down.  In the running battle to escape, Virgil killed 4 party members, and took off, Javelle waiting for the body to become wholly female.
Lydia
Another PC that was part of the Soul of Fire, Lydia was a short, brunette thief.  She also has the distinction of being the longest lived PC in the whole campaign.  Her end was rather creepy, though.  Lydia was focused on by the house itself in Castle Lament, in the Beloved moduled I designed.  The party had escaped, and she began having the dreams, then she agreed to marry the house.  All the party found of her was a wedding dress in her bed at the inn.  Before she died, she managed to assist the party in the reclaimation of the Soul of Fire, and survived the Cauldron of Blood.  She also singlehandedly killed the Lich of IceHeart.  She had fallen into the trap, died, and the lich IceHeart took her to the lab for experimentation.  The Ring of Regeneration implanted in her abdomenal muscle wall healed her back alive, and she began carefully exploring the lich's lair.  She found the lich, and backstabbed him with a wand of magic missles, then fired it.  To make it short, she killed him deader than hell and irritated me, but hey, no grudges.
TOBAR
Tobar was a fighter with real bad luck.  Various things that occurred to him: He was hit in the face by an arrow Javelle dropped off of a cliff, losing an eye.  He was framed for murder, hung and buried, then ressurrected to serve a Death Master (One of the old Dragon Annuals), saved by the party after they hacked off one of his hands, and during the Black Cathedral climax of the SOul of FIre, promised he could hold off Ralts for at least 2 minutes.  In a surprise attack, he manage to hit him with his first (and only) attack.  Enraged, Ralts spent 3 combat rounds tearing him apart, and thus managed to fufill his promise.  When raised from the dead at the end, Tobar took the Soul of Fire, reduced from a powerfull artifact to a powerfull magical weapon, and retired.  Some say he still wanders Ravenloft.
